old prejudices die hard
we went to stanford mall the other day to let ajaye run around and spend some gift certificates. for those of you who have never been there, it's a pretty upscale outdoor mall in palo alto, right near stanford university. now, given the diverse demographics of the bay area, you see all cultures at the mall -- asian, white, african-american, latino, ...
we were walking down a little side corridor when we heard someone say, "hey, what are YOU doing here?" upon turning around we saw an old (70's) white couple seated at a small table. the old guy looks at us and says, "i didn't think caucasians were allowed down this row."
excuse me? dude, you are in the BAY AREA. if you haven't noticed, it's not exactly the aryan brotherhood.
