please remain calm!

talked to the real estate agent today about the results of the radon tests in the house.  the average value for 72 hours was 8.2.  the owner about keeled over -- he's very concerned about the level and wants to fix it right away.  ok, slow down there, man.  let's get together all the stuff we want to do and then fix it all at once.  poor guy -- i'm sure after 24 years he's convinced he now has lung cancer.

still waiting for the air quality (mold, bacteria, etc.) test to come back before we finalize the deal and remove all contingencies.  getting closer!

inspection time!

our house inspection was today.  all went well, except that the initial radon levels were a bit high at 14.0, 9.5, and 9.0.  the EPA says that above 4.0 they want you to have a mitigation system installed.  so it looks like we'll have to have one.  other than that, for a 1979 home, there's not much left that we need to have fixed by the sellers.  so it looks like everything is going to go through just fine.

FINALLY

well, after seeing more than 80 houses with our agent, brandon kekich, we finally have a house!  brandon's mom leta (they are partners in the real estate biz) called us and said a 4 BR ranch in northville just came on the market at 2 PM.  we saw it at 7 PM (never in the daylight) and put down an offer.  after some back and forth and a little bit of waiting and fretting and calling brandon (frantically) our offer was accepted.  the older couple who own the home are very nice and have taken unbeliveable care of the house.  inspection is scheduled for next tuesday right before we head out of town for turkey day.  hopefully that will go well.

i don't remember school being this fun!

so our daughter ajaye is going to a preschool of sorts to get physical and occupational therapy for her sensory and balance issues.  today i decided to go with jenn and ajaye to check the place out.  it's amazing.  they have tons of different play structures, bikes, cars, tunnels, etc. at their disposal.  on top of that there are no fewer than four therapists/teachers in the room with six kids, which is an amazingly low student:teacher ratio.  i'll try to remember to take pics next time.

i figured i'd work offline for an hour or so while waiting.  however, to my joy and surprise, in the conference room where all the parents hung out while the kids were in class sat a beautiful new 802.11a/b wireless access point.  100% signal strength while sitting right next to it!

i guess the schools can have whatever they want when they are the richest district in the area.  luckily, jenn's folks happen to live in the part of the neighboring city which falls into that district!
