ID required
ordinarily write "ID REQUIRED" on the back of my credit card so that the clerk (hopefully) verifies my ID before allowing the transaction. in practice, however, almost none of them ask me for ID. the other day i noticed i had not signed one of my cards, so i went to write "ID REQUIRED" on it as well. i stopped short, though, and thought that it's more likely that my wife will be using my card than my card getting stolen. so i guess since the theft-avoidance system isn't working anyway thanks to clueless merchants, i'll avoid the potential wrath of my wife who would be denied a purchase for lack of ID and just sign the card. ;)

Now, I haven’t had my card stolen or anything — but it drives me insane when they ask to see the card so they can compare my signature! When they do that, I purposely sign my name like I am a monkey with a pen. Then they compare that with my clean signature on the back of the card and always say “OK”. What is the point of that?
